Smoked salmon usually consists of boneless salmon fillets that are covered in salt for around 12 – 24 hours or longer. The salmon is then washed to remove the salt and placed in a smoking kiln. Smoked salmon is considered a delicacy and can be either simply served on bread with lemon or used in a huge variety of dishes from canapes to delicate sauces. Smoked salmon contains the healthy benefit of salmon Omega 3 fatty acids, vitamins B12 and B6 and selenium but it also has high levels of sodium due to the salt curing.
